Course Description

The coronavirus pandemic has encouraged widespread adoption of telehealth tools. As telemedicine grows and regulations as well as insurance and payment coverage changes, it remains important to consider the user experience (UX) from the perspective of both the patients and the healthcare providers if the technology is to be successful. This presentation provides a demo of the “Duke Health Anywhere” app and summarizes a pilot study on patient-centered usability and design improvements.

The authors evaluated patient users’ acceptability of the app. Demographic data, observations, and data from a qualitative survey were collected. User tasks were to install the app, create an account, and explore features and the interface. Among the study results:

  • The average time to install the app was 2.6 minutes
  • Providers were available on average within 10 minutes
  • Over 80% of users reported they were likely to use the app and to recommend it to friends or family
